Il tempio dedicato a Minerva divenne duomo cristiano, moschea e poi ancora duomo

Siracusa - Il Duomo
Syracuse - The Cathedral
At the highest point of the island of Ortigia, the Greeks built a temple to Minerva, and embellished it in such a way that even Cicero told the wealth. The temple became the first European Christian church and the Byzantine ‘adorned like a queen. Upon arrival of the Arabs the temple was a place dedicated to God and was converted into a mosque. The Normans brought the sacred place to Christianity adorning a superb facade was destroyed by the earthquakes that do not, however, managed to destroy the structure of the ancient temple. The facade was rebuilt in Baroque style new trend. When the sun lights it and this happens almost every day in Syracuse, its stones are illuminated and with the passing of the day, its color changes from bright white to a delicate pink.
