This amazing sculpture represent a Greek myth: Ganimedes was a handsome young man who Zeus fell in love with. So, disguised as Jupiter, in the form of an eagle, he saw him to be abducted. Making him the cupbearer of the gods, he gave Ganimedes eternal life.
This Roman copy from the late Hellenistic original sculpture is located in the Palazzo Grimani, in Venice. After the building’s restoration, it was placed in the Antiquarium room.
